Australian Shepherds have a medium thick and length coat that sheds its undercoat twice a year. Brushing your aussie once or twice a week will reduce the shedding that you see and bringing your dog to a groomer during the major shedding times will blow out the majority of the undercoat that is shedding and will reduce the shedding that you see.

For a natural coat keep your puppy brushed out paying close attention to the feathers and behind the ears.

Trimming your aussie still can give you a nice tailored and natural look with a little less of the hair though still needs to be brushed at least once a week.

Shaving your aussie works for many people but don’t think that just because you shave them means they won’t shed, they still will just shorter hairs.

*A warning I always give to customers who shave their aussies. The hair after being shaved doesn’t always grow back the same. Many times, I have had aussies come in for a summer shave and then have to continue to come in a get shaved because their coat grows back patchy and uneven. This is not a for sure thing to happen so the choice is all up to you.

My name is Kassidy, I was a groomer in Oregon for 3 years prior to joining the military and have always loved it. There is where I fell in love with the Mini Australian Shepherd breed. Though I love all dogs, these little balls of energy soon became my favorite. I groom all my dogs and quite a few of my coworker’s dogs as well. I groom out of home where the dogs can feel relaxed and less stressed and even get a play date in if time allows.

Grooming:

Bath & Blow-dry: A simple bath & blow-dry will include a deep cleaning bath along with ear cleaning and anal glands if necessary, a high-powered blow dry, pads and sanitary trim, and a nail trim done with a Dremel to ensure no pain and a close trim.

*Light feather trimming can be added for 5$

Bath & Cut: A bath & cut will include all listed above and a full body cut or trim.

*if choosing to have your dog cut with a comb an additional amount will be added depending on the size of dog.
